Transport Photographers Research

One theme which i want to explore further is travel. This is because i can use different types of traveling to expand my work. For example; car, bus, train, plane, biking. In this blog post i will research multiple artists and explain further about why i’m intrigued by their work.

Aaron Yeoman

The first artist that i was interested by is called Aaron Yeoman. Yeoman’s passion started only a couple of years ago during 2009 when he took a trip to New York, once he returned he was extremely disappointed with the majority of his images of the famous architecture around NYC. Therefore, he decided to go and buy his first DSLR camera to capture some more professional images.

Aaron Yeoman usually bases his work upon the interior and exterior of buildings, tunnels, bridges and cityscapes. He uses long exposure images when photographing buildings and also uses a lense called Neutral Density filter. This slows down the light coming into the camera which allows surreal and unusual, but pleasing effects on the final image. For example, one might wish to photograph a waterfall at a slow shutter speed to create a deliberate motion blur effect. The photographer might determine that to obtain the desired effect, a shutter speed of ten seconds was needed. On a very bright day, there might be so much light that even at minimal film speed and a minimal aperture, the ten-second shutter speed would let in too much light, and the photo would be overexposed. In this situation, applying an appropriate neutral-density filter is the equivalent of stopping down one or more additional stops, allowing the slower shutter speed and the desired motion-blur effect.

Peter Alvey

The second transport photographer that i want to use to research and incorporate into my work further is called Peter Alvey. There isn’t much information about this freelance photographer but he is a professional photographer and film maker based in the Midlands (Market Harborough). Avley has had experience within industrial, commercial, construction, transport, fashion, editorial and PR photography. All of this experience in different sectors has lead Peter Alvey to have his work published for multiple companies, including Balfour Beatty, Bovis Homes, British Heart Foundation, Cameron Homes, Costain Galliford Try, DHL, First Group, GoVia, Great Western Railway, Hertz, Highways England, Jelson Homes, Keolis, London Underground, McCarthy & Stone, Network Rail, NHS Trusts, Office Of Rail And Road, Pets At Home, Stannah, Subway, Taylor Wimpey, Topps Tiles, U3A, Virgin Trains East Coast, and William Davis.

Above is 3 images of Peter Alvey which interest me and i want to use certain aspects that i want to use within my own work. All of his photography is focusing within one specific object. Therefore, i want to experiment with depth of field and shutter speed. When i’m experimenting with these it will allow me to pick which ones i want to include within my final piece. I will use the a longer shutter speed to capture trains as i think this is more powerful and effective within the image. However, another aspect which i want to experiment is depth of field to have a main focus within the imagery.
