Half term plan

Over the next week i plan to complete any outstanding work left for my FMP. I completed a list of multiple things i needed to do before i go back to college on 5th June.

  • Go into college and print off my images. (4 A3 images on normal printer paper)
  • Purchase the frames. (2 A2 frames from wilko)
  • Cut and stick images to card for final piece.

Book work:

  • Finish Dada art movement spider diagram.
  • Annotate artist responce (Aaron Yeoman and Chris Porsz)
  • Double page for public transport and city crimes.
  • Plan for 7 weeks in, review.
  • Refining contact sheets.
  • Final outcome plan.

Blog work:

  • Bibliography
  • Evaluation
  • Proposal
  • Any outstanding work in drafts.

Creating a list for what i need to complete helped me keep on track over the half term break. I also am planning to visit Cambridge City and go to museums and galleries. Going round these will allow my secondary research to be built up and resources.

By the end of the half term I had completed the majority of the work which I wanted to do. On the last day I wanted to add some adjustments to my final piece; such as, more words, sharper cutting, cleaning my frame. Although I had completed this I wanted to add a little bit of further detail. I still had to update my proposal but I couldn’t do this until I go to college as it was saved on a college computer.

Review3/5/18: refining ideas.

After having a review and a catch up with my tutor Lillian i realised that i need to finalise my ideas down. Lillian questioned me with what is the message of my project? How can i convey my idea better? I decided that i want the message of my transport to present how people don’t realise how badly public transport is polluting our society. Transport has become such a large part of peoples every day routine when commuting to and from work/ school etc. They don’t consider how this is harming us and our future. Next, i had to decide a message for the other half of my final piece which is based on street photography. For this theme i have decided to focus on how all people have hidden stories or things happening in their lives, sometimes things which cant be hid. Therefore, i need to research further into both of these messages. For transport i need to research how much it is used in a day and statistics to back up my point. For street i need to research into crime population in large cities and how it effects peoples everyday lives.

Towards the start of my project i researched into the art movement of Dada as i wanted to explore collaging. However, after this review and discussing ideas with the tutors i have decided that once i have my final imagery i will be using words in a collaging/typography technique to express my message across to the audience. I think that this will be a powerful way to present my message on my imagery.

These images are copies of my plan which i done in my book. They was quick brainstorms of different things which i wanted to research further into. This helped me gain a better understanding of things i wanted to focus on for my final piece and the message  i want to portray.

I also needed to decide and finalise how large i want my final frame for my presentation. I either want to buy 2 frames both A3 and have the different themes in different frames, or have one A2 frame and print the images larger and collage them all together. The frame which i am planning on buying are below. The measurements for an A3 piece of paper is 11.7 x 16.5 in; therefore, this frame is roughly the correct measurement. As the frame height is 0.5 inch smaller than A3 paper i will have to cut this down to the correct size to fit it in.

After talking to other class members about our projects together i started to generate further potential ideas. In my sketch book i have written down ideas of what i could use within my work to extend my ideas further. Below is a copy of my ideas generation.

Plan so far, 5 weeks in.

According to our time plan included in my proposal we are coming to the end of our 5th week in this project. This means that were half way through our FMP; therefore, i created a brief plan of what i am planning to complete for my final outcome. In this basic plan i have included; the themes which i want to focus on when photographing, the art movement i am going to base my work upon, what type of media i want to use, the technique i’m going to use on my imagery, where i will purchase my frame for my presentation at the end of the project. Finally, i included various locations where i will base my imagery on. I wanted to list a couple of potential places because if i don’t visit one of these places for a reason i can explain why i didn’t go there.

In the top corner i have included a basic sketch of what i want my final outcome to look like. I am planning to use a collection of images from my different themes to create an assemblage of imagery. At the beginning of the project i was going to take another photograph of all of them organised; however, i have decided to not to this idea as i think it will prevent being able to show the textures which are created.

Creating a quick sketch like this will help me refer back in a couple of weeks time. This will show where i decided to change my idea and i can explain how and why i did this.  I have also included a screenshot of the photo frame which i want to purchase to present my final outcome. After doing away the weekend and coming back 1st May i was debating whether to do my final piece a larger size, potentially A2 allowing me to print my images a bit larger. However, as i am planning on collaging some imagery i think i would like to plan this out over 2 frames to have a variety on both.

Initial Ideas and Peer Review

When we was first given this project i had some initial thoughts and ideas of how i wanted to approach my FMP. Firstly, i knew that i wanted to to explore ‘Assemblage’ in photography. This is because i feel most confident with this. Then i decided to explore different themes of assemblage which i wanted to photograph and what i thought would let me experiment further. I was hooked by transport and personal belongings as a starting point. When i was looking up the word assemblage on Pinterest i found multiple ideas with a selection of items including within one image. This was an aspect which i wanted to incorporate this into my work, the idea that i had was to chose a theme and i want to include various photographs under one theme into one final image. I will plan to do this by organising all of my images together and then photographing them again. Therefore, with this idea i can associate multiple things into one final image.

Below is a copy of my peer review which we completed at the end of our first week into our FMP, i was paired up with Jake. This was to explain to our partner what our first ideas are, answering the questions below and reviewing back at the bottom. After my peer review i realised that i need to think the project into further depth to get my best possible grade. Therefore, to complete this i will decide a certain art movement which i also want to incorporate into my work. Once discussing with other peers i decided that i want to focus on the art movement of ‘Dada’. I prefer this movement to surrealism because it would be different as a lot of other people are using surrealism.

Therefore, i will carry on further research on transport, personal belonging and dada. This will allow me to have a better starting point of what aspects i want to incorporate into my own work.
