Planning and completing the shoot.

Planning to complete my shoot for my final images in London on the 5th of May will allow me to have an understanding of everything i need to do on the day. During this day i will shoot multiple images linking with my chosen themes. I will focus my theme on the trains, underground, people around the city, landmarks etc. Taking lots of photos on my shoot will mean i have a large selection of images to refine through and decide what i want to use for my final piece.

Throughout the day i only came across a one major problem. This was after shooting for about 2 hours my memory card that was in the camera was full as it was only a 1GB. Therefore, to overcome this problem i had to buy a new 16GB memory card so i could carry on my shoot as i didn’t have enough images for my project. Everything else during the day was successful and i was happy with how the shoot went.

Chris Porsz Response

Whilst i was responding to another artist i also included imagery for my second chosen artist; Chris Porsz. Whilst at the train station it was rush hour for people coming home from work. Therefore, the trains which was coming in was extremely busy which was perfect for my street photography. Below is some of the photography which i took in response to Chris Porsz. When taking these photos on my phone i wanted to capture people in the moment of there action. As i said in a previous blog post, these are rough mock up ideas of what to photograph.

The way i have laid out the images makes it look like a series. From the first one the where they arrive home and get off the station, walking down from the station stairs and then the final point of using another use of transport to get to their next destination.

When i photograph around my chosen locations i will focus on capturing people during the moment doing particular activities. I will be looking for people around the city doing every day tasks. As i am going to London i will have the opportunity to take pictures of people shopping, eating, making memories along the streets. I think that taking pictures of people within the moment of their actions makes the overall image more powerful and effective because they have more emotions. When photographing around my various locations i need to have the confidence to take multiple images because then i can refine them down to my final imagery on my outcome. As i am planning to include a lot of photographs in my final piece i will have to make sure they are able to use and able to collage on top of them.

Aaron Yeoman Response

Below is a selection of images from my local train station. I only took these response images on my phone; so, i couldn’t capture a slow shutter speed like my artist Aaron Yeoman. This helped elaborate my ideas for the project as i can refer back to these original thoughts of what to photograph and explain why i did or did not use them. This is the first part of my final piece becoming together and are rough and basic ideas. For my final ideas i am planning to go to London to capture different types of transport within the similar location. This is helpful because there will be multiple types of transport such as; cyclists, cars, buses, trains etc.

As you can see in the collage of imagery above i have focused within photographs at the train station. I hadn’t planned in advance for this practise shoot as once i got to the station i realised that i couldn’t get down to the train platform because i hadn’t purchased a train ticket. Therefore, this was a disadvantage because i had to stand above the trains. However, even though i had this disadvantage i still found this task beneficial to my project.

When i photograph my final imagery i will use a professional DSLR camera which will allow me to have sharper and cleaner photography. I also want to experiment with fast and slow shutter speed to have a variety of experimentation. This is also purely because my chosen artist includes this technique. Therefore, this is my inspiration which i want to incorporate into my own work to fulfil my final plan.
